Summer 2017 Classes

Classes will begin the week of June 12 and will end August 18. This is a 10 week semester and Tuesday, July 4th will be a holiday with no tutoring or classes. Register early! Since there is an increased demand for tutoring over the summer, classes not filled will be dropped, with that time offered to families wishing for a tutoring spot. An immediate refund will be given for deposits made on classes not filled.
**More classes may be added based on interest!**

The Spilled Ink Writer's Club (upper elementary-early middle school ages)
This is a totally relaxed, fun group for kids who already like to write...or kids that just need a little bit more encouragement to really "dig in". In the Spilled Ink Writer's Club, each child will get their own copy of Spilling Ink: A Young Writer's Handbook, a guide from two seasoned youth authors. We will explore ideas such as: convincing your characters to come to life writing rules: ignore or adore? how to get story ideas who is telling your story: the narrative voice creating suspense learning how to give and receive constructive feedback (all within each child's comfort level and choice) revealing your character and story line through enticing dialogue create a mouth-watering title using words that mean something...visual imagery and the impact of well-chosen words ...and more!!! Your child will have the chance to share things they are working on, request feedback or celebration, and be challenged to grow in ways they haven't before! We will also create a collection of stories that will go home with each child at the end of the summer. Who is as excited as I am?! |
Summer Schedule TBD*
$20/class (includes support materials sent home weekly) *Due to the high volume of tutoring requests, this class will not have a spot on the calendar at this time. If you are interested, email me (Jill) at literacyjourneys@gmail.com. If enough families would like me to offer it, then I will set a time that works for everyone!

Break-the-Code Boot Camp
10 weeks (twice a week sessions) to transform how your child reads! If your child gets "stuck" trying to figure out words they don't know, then "sounding it out" just isn't cutting it! Break-the-Code Boot Camp's games and strategies will teach them how to master word attack skills. This program is so special it has it's own website! You can download the flyer below or go straight to the Boot Camp page. I can't wait to see you over there! ![]()
**Note: This will be the regular boot camp class for rising 3-4th graders and above. If you are interested in Boot Camp Junior Cadets (for younger students) please email me!
